What is the course about?

This course is designed to assist individuals to prepare & develop a portfolio of creative work for entry into third level art and design colleges. This preparatory programme is suitable for both mature and Leaving Certificate Students and provides a platform for creative ideas and skills to produce a diverse body of work.

Specialist Lecturers will guide students through a number of artistic media such as: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and 3D construction. Emphasis will be placed on the development of core drawing and observational skills through visual journals, sketchbooks and building, evolving ideas through making.

Materials will be provided.

Day 1 Drawing: Introduction to materials. Drawing techniques including - tone, line, negative space.

Day 2 Gallery visit: Alternatively, drawing from observation around college. Further drawing including using sketchbooks.

Day 3 Introducing colour: Colour theory, mixing with paint and colour matching.

Day 4 Colour painting: All day study of subject.

Day 5 Developing 3-D Artworks: Making with paper, card and wire. Making wearable sculptures from paper.

Day 6 Printmaking: Continuing 3D making/or life drawing with model

Day 7 Photography and digital media. Animation.

Day 8 Documenting work & assembling portfolio.
