AREAS OF EXPERTISE: LIFE DRAWING / DRAWING

: Eustace is an artist and educator. She completed her Masters Degree in Fine Art Education, 2013, MTU CCAD. Her drawing practice explores drawing as a phenomenological activity alongside her deep interest in historical /contemporary drawing pedagogy. Her work utilizes methodologies from the latter as tools of enquiry into the unseen behaviours/emotions of our human experience. Working with a life model heightens this experience of what it means to be human. As an embodied process drawing registers our perceptual encounter with everything beyond our bodies and simultaneously within our bodies. A residency at Trinity School of Medicine Anatomy department in which she had permission to draw from Donor Bodies (‘Apertures and Anxieties’ 2011, RHA) profoundly informed this experience. Humans drawing humans is ancient, now 18th cent European philosophical ideals of drawing practise are juxtaposed with 21st cent Posthumanist philosophy, as our lives are de-materializing into the digital life drawing is more relevant than ever.

Eustace’s work is in private and public collections. She is represented by the Paul Kane Gallery, Dublin and is a Fellow of the Ballinglen Arts Foundation. She was a founding member of the Backwater Artists Group Studios ,Cork when it moved to Wandesford Quay 2001, and has been a member, Director and Chair of the Group.

Eustace is a member of Drawbridge : The Drawing Research Hub based in MTU, CCAD. In 2018 she co-founded (with her identical twin) The Drawing Clinic : which creates a critical space for conversations about drawing. Eustace was invited by the RHA to deliver a Drawing Masterclass on “Dynamic Perceptual Communication / Developing Language”, 2021. Upcoming exhibitions: “Cover Versions”, 50 years of the Gallery Press, RHA, Dublin, 2022 and ‘The Drawing Room”, drawings selected from Crawford Art Gallery Collection, Cork 2022.
