AREAS OF EXPERTISE:  EXPANDED PRINT, INSTALLATION, PHOTOGRAPHY, COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE

Catherine Hehir is an artist-curator and researcher. She is the recipient of numerous awards from the Irish Arts Council and Culture Ireland to support her diverse art practice and exhibits work nationally and internationally often making her work through residencies that explore the perceptions of memory in landscape and collaborative practices within expanded fields of print.  These include Purple Bamboo Fellowship at Hangzhou Art Academy in China, Landscape Art Research centre in Queenstown -LARQ- Tasmania, Artist in Residence at AGA LAB, Amsterdam’s-grafisch-atelier and the Centre for Fine art Print Research UWE Bristol. Hehir Studied Fine Art at the Crawford College and then at University of Ulster graduating with first class honours, Hehir’s engagement with research is intrinsic to the nature of her work. She is currently a practice led Phd researcher at DJCAD Dundee College of Art and Design Scotland.  

Her research practice moves between installation, sound, print, sculpture, and collective curatorial practices specialising in the role of print in the field of multi/ trans disciplinary art practices. Her interest in working across different areas has led to several forms of collaborative endeavours this is the focus of her current art practice, in which she examines prints manipulation through artistic processes and its integration and enlargement into other fields of contemporary Art. Most recent projects include IRON-R project Kilnageary Sculpture Studio, UNBOUND: Visual Literature a multi-disciplinary International Collaborative Arts with the Dingle Literature Festival & Poet Sean Borodale, UK, An Mhóin Mhór,  a site-specific deep Mapping project with retired farmers and a Rural Museum in  Clare. Nov, Hehir & Noonan Brides a series of large scale durational and ephemeral collaborative projects and State of Print: All worlds are invented which Catherine is a co-initiator of this international collective project. Which was the keynote at IMPACT 12 conference The Printmakers voice at UWE Bristol. These collaborations have led to print projects performances and events that contribute to many international print conferences and symposia.
