AREAS OF EXPERTISE: SCULPTURE, DRAWING

Danish born Helle Helsner works through sculpture and drawing. With a foundation in ancient methods and materiality, her work is a continued exploration of intuitive material understanding. This is addressed through her sculptural work, drawing and the metal casting process. Casting her work by hand at her studio has allowed her to develop a language that has deep seeded roots with a contemporary feel.

Helle exhibits regularly and her bronze casting practice has resulted in collaborations with archaeologists, particularly in her native Denmark – including ritual bronze casting in New Mexico. Exhibitions have included solo shows and selected group exhibitions in Ireland and abroad as well as performance pieces revolving around metal casting. In 2015 she created a bespoke brooch, which was presented to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and is now part of the state jewellery collection.

A member of Visual Artist Ireland, the Design and Craft Council Ireland and the National Sculpture Factory,
